Foundries in Poland

Foundries in Poland range from large plants producing in volume for the automotive and machinery industries to mid-sized and small job-shop foundries that make castings to order. They operate in many regions of the country – especially numerous in Silesia, a region with a long metallurgical tradition. When choosing a supplier, it is worth first determining which material and which technology you need.

Types of foundries in Poland

  • Iron foundries – the largest group; machine bodies, pump components, parts for construction and automotive.
  • Steel foundries – heavy, high-strength machine and equipment parts, industrial valves and fittings.
  • Non-ferrous foundries – aluminum, copper alloys, zinc; often specialized in one metal and a few technologies.
  • Precision and art foundries – small, accurate castings made by the lost-wax method, sculptures, decorative castings.

Foundries also differ in scale. Plants geared toward large production runs usually have high minimum order quantities, while job-shop foundries also accept prototypes and short runs.

How to Vet a Foundry Before Placing an Order

  1. Registration details – the company can be verified in the KRS or CEIDG registers by its NIP (tax ID) number.
  2. Certificates – an ISO 9001 certificate should show a number and the certification body, and its validity can be checked in that body's database.
  3. Technologies and Equipment – whether the foundry produces castings in the required process, weight and size, and whether it has in-house machining.
  4. Quality Control – how it inspects castings, what documents it supplies, and which technical acceptance conditions it works to.
  5. Plant Visit – for a longer-term partnership, an audit or a simple visit to the production floor tells you the most.
