Castings for Military Applications – High Quality and Precision in Production
Military components must be reliable and durable because they operate in harsh conditions. That is why repeatable quality, dimensional accuracy and full compliance with documentation matter in the production of castings for the defense industry. Below, we describe how these requirements translate into production.
1. Materials and technologies
Castings for the defense industry are made from various alloys – cast steel, cast iron and non-ferrous alloys. We cast aluminum alloys only, which combine low weight with corrosion resistance. We cast them in sand molds, in permanent molds and by high-pressure die casting, which allows us to produce prototypes and short runs (after consultation) as well as series production.
2. Quality control
Orders for the defense industry are fulfilled according to the drawing and the agreed acceptance conditions. Inspection includes dimensional measurements and surface assessment and, if the acceptance conditions require it, also non-destructive testing, e.g. radiographic or penetrant testing. Magnetic particle testing does not apply here because aluminum is not ferromagnetic. We operate a quality management system certified to ISO 9001:2015, and we perform strength tests and material structure analysis on request.
3. Machining and finishing
After casting, the castings are cleaned and machined. We machine functional surfaces on CNC machines – we have 3-axis and 5-axis centers – and on request we also perform heat treatment and powder coating. As a result, the casting can reach the customer as a part ready for assembly.
4. Applications in military equipment
Aluminum castings are used in military vehicles, communications systems and electronics, logistics equipment, and in accessories for defense systems – as housings, bodies, covers, brackets and heat sinks. Each component is designed to meet specific operating requirements: loads, vibration, leak tightness and corrosion resistance.
